My name is Shelly and I am a crochet fanatic and yarn addict. I created Daisy Stitch Co because I love being a maker and want to share my creations and ideas with you. I have shops on Etsy and Ravelry where I offer finished pieces and crochet patterns.
My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was a kid. I have loved it since! I have always been a crafter for as long as I can remember. Even as a kid, a visit to the local craft store was like Disney World to me. I crafted with my kids as they were growing up and my daughter is still an avid crafter and crocheter.
I am a native Texan and live in Wylie, TX. I have been married to my wonderful husband, Robert, for 26 years. I am mom to 2 college kids. My son Zach is 24 and about to move to Bristol, England to pursue his Phd in Musicology. My daughter is 21 and a Senior at TWU in Denton, TX. I am also mom to a gorgeous, fun-loving dog-Daisy. And I have a sweet grand-dog, Holly, who is my daughter’s dog.
My mission for this website is the following:
- To help those who are interested in learning crochet and other crafts.
- To help carry on the tradition of crochet and crafting to the next generation.
- To share ideas with the maker and fiber artist community.
- To promote and support other makers and fiber artists.
You can follow me on Instagram and Facebook. I am also on Etsy, Ravelry, Pinterest, and LoveCrochet.com. (See links at the top of page.)
To thank you for reading my first post, here is a FREE pattern, the Estrella Pouch. It’s a cute little pouch that’s great for sunglasses, crochet hooks, etc. It will fit right into your beach bag or pool tote. There is a matching bag coming soon, so be on the lookout for the pattern release.
Estrella Pouch Crochet Pattern
The pattern makes an 8” x 4” in button close pouch.
Experience Level: Advanced Beginner
Materials:
Worsted weight yarn: The pink pouch is Fair Isle Angel in Rose. The blue/yellow pouch is in I Love this Cotton! Waterlily. They are both worsted weight and worked great for this pattern. Any worsted weight yarn will work. You will need 100 yds in total. It should be less than 1 skein.
Crochet Hook: Size J/10/6 mm
Scissors
Yarn Needle
Tape Measure
Gauge: 14 stitches= 4” 12 rows= 4”
Be sure to check your gauge. I tend to crochet tighter, yours may be a little different. I highly recommend doing a test swatch before getting started. Do 10 or 12 rows of hdc about 4-6” across.
Stitch Abbreviations:
Ch = chain
Sc = single crochet
Hdc = half double crochet
Sp = space

Star Stitch Video Tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZGEYxhoCX4
This is a great video from the American Crochet Council that shows you the basic stitches for the Star Stitch. Mine is a little different because I have the rows of dc before and after.
Star St =Star Stitch. At beginning of row, after ch 3, draw up loop in 2nd ch from hook, draw up a loop from the next ch, draw up a loop in ch 1 sp, draw up a loop in next st. There will be 5 loops on your hook. Yarn over and draw through all 5 loops. Ch 1. (The ch 1 becomes the ‘eye’ of the star.) Next star will be, draw up a loop in eye of star st just made, draw up a loop in last loop of previous star st, draw up a loop in ch 1 sp, draw up a loop in next dc. There will be 5 loops on your hook. Yarn over and draw through all 5 loops. Ch 1.
Notes:
- Chain 3 or 4 at the beginning of a row DOES count as a stitch.
- The Star Stitch is a little tricky to learn. I recommend practicing with it before you start.
- The first part of the pattern is worked in the round. Turn at the end of each row. This helps create the texture of the piece.
- Be sure to leave a long tail at the beginning to use for seaming the bottom of the pouch.
Ch 50. Join with ss in 1st ch.
Row 1: Ch 1. Hdc in 1st st and in each st around. Join with ss in beginning hdc. Turn. 50 hdc
Row 2: Ch 1. Hdc in 1st st and in each st around. Join with ss in beginning hdc. Turn. 50 hdc
Rows 3-10: (or until body of the pouch measures 4”) Repeat Row 2. Turn at the end of each row.
Row 11: (This row starts the flap of the pouch.) Ss in 1st st. Hdc in next 23 st. Ss in 24th st. Turn. 23 hdc, 2 ss
Row 12: Ch 1. Hdc in next 23 st. 23 hdc
Row 13: Ch 1. Hdc in next 23 st. 23 hdc
Row 14: Ch 4. Sk 1st and 2nd st. * Dc in next st, ch 1, sk 1* Repeat from * to the end of row. Turn. 12 dc, 11 ch 1 sp.
Row 15: Ch 3. Star st across (see above instructions.) In the last star, use the top of the turning ch from previous row. Turn. 11 stars.
Row 16: Ch 3. Dc in eye of 1st star, ch 1. *Dc in eye of next star, ch 1* Repeat until end of row. Turn. 12 dc, 11 ch 1 sp
Row 17: Ch 1. Sc in each st across. Continue working sc around corner an on flap and opening of pouch until you reach the 1st sc. Ss into 1st sc.
Fasten off.
Seams
The side with the Star Stitches facing out will become the RS of the pouch. Turn pouch inside out and seam the bottom with ss or whip stitch. Make sure the stars are facing out when the flap is closed.
Button Closure
Sew a button at the center, just below the opening of pouch. Use the center opening of flap to insert the button.
And that’s it! You have a pouch! Share your pictures with me on Instagram-@daisystitchco. Can’t wait to see what you create!
