Sunbeam Hexagon Motif
Experience Level: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate
Materials:
Yarn:
Scheepjes Stonewashed/Riverwashed Color Pack Each mini skein will make 1 hexagon with a bit left over. (Similar dk weight yarn can be substituted.)
Crochet Hook: F/4mm
Scissors
Yarn Needle
Tape Measure
Gauge: 20 stitches= 4” 10 rows= 4”
Each hexagon motif should be 5” from point to point.
Be sure to check your gauge. I tend to crochet tighter, yours may be a little different. I highly recommend doing a test swatch before getting started.
Stitch Abbreviations:
MR = magic ring
Ch = chain
Sc = single crochet
Hdc = half double crochet
Dc = double crochet
Tr = treble crochet
Sp = space
St = stitch
Ss = Slip stitch
Sk = skip stitch
Beg = beginning
Special Stitches:
Dc Cl = double crochet cluster: Yarn over and insert hook in st. Yarn over and pull through st. (3 loops on hook) Yarn over and pull through 2 loops. (2 loops on hook.) Yarn over and insert hook in same st. Yarn over and pull through st, (4 loops on hook.) Yarn over and pull through 2 loops. (3 loops on hook) Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops.
Beg V St = All in same st, (ch 3, dc, ch 2, dc cl)
V St = All in same st, (dc cl, ch 2, dc cl)
Fptr = Work tr around post of st from front.
Fpdc = Work dc around post of st from front..
Make MR.
Round 1: Ch 3. (Counts as dc here and throughout.) Work 11 dc into MR. Ss into top of beg ch 3. Tighten ring. (12 dc)
Round 2: Beg V st in same st as join. Ch 1. Sk 1. *V st in next st. Ch 1. Sk 1. * Repeat from * around. Ss into top of beg V st. (6 V st, 6 ch 1 sp)
Round 3: Ss into the next ch 2 sp. Beg V st in ch 2 sp. Ch 1. Dc cl in next ch 1 sp. Ch 1. * V st in next ch 2 sp. Ch 1. Dc cl in next ch 1 sp. Ch 1. * Repeat from * around. Ss into top of beg V st. (6 V st, 6 dc cl, 12 ch 1 sp)
Round 4: Ss over to next ch 2 sp. Ch 3. In ch 2 sp, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc). (In next ch 1 sp, 2 dc) twice. * In next ch 2 sp, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc). (In next ch 1 sp, 2 dc) twice. * Repeat from * around. Ss into beg V st. (48 dc, 6 ch 2 sp.)
Round 5: Ss over to next ch 2 sp. Ch 1. * In ch 2 sp, (sc, ch 2, sc). (Sc in next st. Fptr around next dc cl from Round 3. Sk next dc from Round 4.) 3 times. Sc in next 2 st. * Repeat from * around. Ss into 1st sc of round. (42 sc, 18 fptr, 6 ch 2 sp)
Round 6: Ss over to next ch 1 sp. Ch 1. * In ch 1 sp, (hdc, ch 2, hdc). Hdc in next 2 st. (Fpdc around fptr from Round 5. Hdc in next st.) 3 times. Hdc in next 2 st. * Repeat from * around. Ss into 1st hdc of round. (54 hdc, 18 fpdc, 6 ch 2 sp)
Fasten off.
